Te Anau Glow Worm Cave

After our Jet Boat ride, we drove to Te Anau.  Te Anau is a small town on Lake Te Anau but is the stopping point/hub of Fiordland National Park and and a Glow worm cave.  We boarded a boat to ride across Lake TeAnau and hike up to a cave where glow worms live.  Once inside the cave we walked along a river until we got in little boats to see the glow worms.  It must be pitch dark and we had to be silent while in the cave.  It was very interesting, but we couldn't see the worms up close as we had seen on the Minnehaha trail.  We were glad we had done both though, the trail and the cave.

Ava, Alyssa, and Savannah in front of the giant Kiwi Bird at the boat dock before boarding our cruise across the lake.

On our way to the trail

Back on the boat after our hike/boat ride in the cave and two presentations on the glow worms.  Super interesting!!  They are such a unique insect.

The picture below are the professional pictures that we bought of our tour.  You can't take pics inside the cave because it is DARK and there is no way to see them up this close.

You can see the glowing dot on the above picture.  The back end of worm glows to attract it's dinner.

The trail inside the cave before you board the boats.

A waterfall inside the cave.

You can see on the above map where Te Anau is in New Zealand.

And the above picture is just a picture of a picture but had to include it because thee girls LOVED the poem!!  They recited it over and over the rest of the evening.  Ha!!

Shotover Jet Boat Ride.... YeeHaw!!!

February 20, 2017

We had been anticipating this Jet Boat ride from the day we decided to take sabbatical in New Zealand.  Brady had rode this same Jet Boat ride several years ago and loved it and we had seen his video and wanted in on all the excitement.  We were pumped and it was a beautiful day!!  Sunny and warm and clear!

All geared up and ready to ride.  Life jackets and coats to keep us dry.

We were super excited to be the first ones to get on the boat so we got up front.  Savannah was excited to be tall enough to ride in the front so she climbed up front with Brady.  Then she quickly decided that she couldn't see over the boat so she wanted to switch so she and Kayla jumped over the seats and traded.  No seatbelts on this ride so hold on tight!!

Our driver, Nick.  Oddly enough, he was the same driver Brady had several years ago.

Afterwards!!  Lots of smiles and a little soggy.  So amazing.  We would do it again and again and again.

BAD HAIR!!!

Ava was just a little too short to fill in the hole... HA!!!

I've only been on this jet boat ride... but I think their slogan is spot on!!

Below are some of the professional shots that they took.  We OF COURSE bought the package to get the awesome video (link at the end).  Brady had bought the video a few years ago and I had already told him we were absolutely buying it before we even got there.  I'm so glad we did because we love re-living it.  Can't get enough of their smiles and excitement.

Now, back to Queenstown to get Kayla's camera and eat lunch (see previous post) and then on to
 Te Anau, NZ.
